Background Of Jose Cuervo & Its 100% Blue Agave Tequila

Jose Cuervo is a brand of tequila that has been around for nearly 300 years, since 1795. It is one of the oldest and most popular and recognized tequila brands on the planet. The company was formed by Jose Antonio de Cuervo y Valdes, a Spanish immigrant who settled in Mexico in which he was given a parcel of land to grow blue agave, the plant which tequila is made from.

The brand has won numerous awards over the centuries with its first gold medal in 1889 being presented by Mexican president Porfirio Diaz for the quality of tequila it produced. In 2009, Bloomberg Businessweek awarded Jose Cuervo Silver, Platino, Reserva de la Familia, and Black as four of the world’s 20 best tasting tequilas. In 2012, Reserva de la Familia anejo received a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
With its popularity soaring worldwide for sipping tequila or mixed drinks, there are several types of Jose Cuervo that are soft and full of taste to choose from. The goal is to ensure that your tequila is made from 100% blue agave.

Here are four types of Jose Cuervo that are quality tequila and a little about what creates the uniqueness.

We start off with Jose Cuervo Silver. It is good for mixed drinks and also for tasting, to notice the purity of the agave and tequila in its purest form. It has natural sweetness from the sugar of the agave mixed with the pepper profile from the soil in which the agave grows.

Next is Jose Cuervo Reposado, which is aged just long enough to create a slightly more complex taste. It begins to pick up a golden hue with hints of vanilla. Another good tequila for sipping or mixed drinks.

Thirdly, we have Jose Cuervo Anejo. It is aged longer and begins to incorporate an oak taste with a soft caramel profile coming out. It can be used for mixed drinks, but sipping is more common than not.

Lastly is Jose Cuervo Extra Anejo, which is aged the longest. Because of this, the complexities pick up with vanilla and caramel being noticed to the palate. It is mostly sipping but again, can be used for mixed cocktails.

Whether you prefer to sip the pure blanco or an aged extra anejo, Jose Cuervo is also a great tequila to use for mixed drinks. There are several drinks on the market that create sweet, some not so sweet, but regardless, Jose Cuervo is a tequila that has proven itself over the centuries and generations in Mexico and the world.
